Considerations When Training Outdoors

There are advantages and disadvantages of outdoors but the safety of the
client is paramount. When training outdoors, pay attention to the
following tips:

  • Take along a first aid kit in case of emergencies.
  • Be aware of any special medical conditions of the client- e.g.
    diabetic, asthmatic, on medication, etc.
  • Make sure you know the location of the nearest hospital.
  • If the client is asthmatic, ensure that he/she brings along an
    inhaler.
  • Use sun-screen and make sure that the client is appropriately
dressed for the outdoors, including proper shoes.
  • Make sure the client has water or isotonic drinks.
  • Have some energy bars available just in case.
  • Take a fully charged mobile phone along.
  • Inform park officers and the client’s next-of-kin when going
    hiking.
